Stones Will Shout
This Sunday is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week. Together we'll worship, celebrating with a palm processional as we honor Jesus moving ever closer to the cross. Holy Week is an emotional week with ups and downs. We begin with this joyful parade, celebrating alongside the disciples and the people of Jerusalem until we make it to Thursday.
In Holy Week, Thursday is known as Maundy Thursday. On this day we honor the Last Supper. We imagine Jesus amongst his disciples. Some take Communion this day, paying extra attention to the piece of the liturgy that calls us to remember Jesus every time we partake in this. Others celebrate with feet or hand washing. In our church, we will take time to honor those who have helped us, who have made a difference in their lives by ritually washing their hands.
Things take a somber turn on Good Friday when we remember Jesus' state-sanctioned death on the cross. Join us during the day for a contemplative activity. From noon to 6:00 p.m., we will host the Stations of the Cross, where you will have the opportunity to journey through Scripture with Jesus to the cross and interact with reflective activities. At 7:30 p.m., our Chancel Choir will lead us in a Tenebrae Service, evoking emotion and quiet prayer.
Saturday, our children can enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt and Sunday our hearts lift up again as we celebrate Easter and Christ's resurrection. Whether you can join us for one or all of these services, I wish you time to reflect, to pray, and to hope. In just seven days we are faced with life, death, and resurrection. May this week inspire us to consider our own role in resurrection for God's people and creation here and now.
