Together @ 10 Worship Service and Pancake Breakfast

Please join us on Sunday, October 30 as we recognize our choirs at our special Together @ 10 service - Choir Recognition Sunday.

Stop by the gym before or after the service to enjoy food and fellowship as our youth host a Pancake Breakfast. Donations received from the breakfast will help support our Youth Ministries.

We hope to see you there!

A Sunday Morning with Alice Parker

DGFUMC is hosting international choral celebrity, Alice Parker, the woman who shaped the face of choral music in America, and who will lead the congregation in discovering the beauty in hymn singing on Sunday, November 6 at our 11:00 a.m. worship service. She will build the musicality of each and every person present; and this service is one you will remember for years to come. At 90 years old, Mrs. Parker is making her victory lap, and this trip to the Midwest is to be one of her last out of her home state of Massachusetts.

Join us as we learn from this internationally renowned composer, conductor and teacher, as she leads the congregation in a Community Sing Service featuring beloved hymns both old and new.

Please invite your friends and neighbors to a special morning of singing.

All Are Welcome!

Rally Day - Together @ 10 Service

Please join us on Rally Day as we kick-off our new year of Sunday School and prepare to express our love as a congregation in the coming season. At this time, we will return to our 8:15 a.m. worship service in the Chapel.

We will be combining our 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. services into one Together @ 10 service at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. There will be no Sunday School this day as families are encouraged to worship together. Sunday school will begin on Sunday, September 18 at both the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. services.

Messy Church will also be held this day starting at 11:00 a.m. All are invited to join in a family friendly worship time with crafts and lunch.

We will continue our fellowship after services as the Children & Family work area has reserved the Tivoli Movie Theater for our Rally Day celebration. Everyone is invited to attend The Peanuts Movie, which will be shown at 1:30 p.m.
Each child (12 and under) who attends church that morning will receive a coupon for a Kiddie Combo (box with popcorn, snack and drink). The concession stand will also be open for anyone wanting to purchase snacks. The doors open at the Tivoli at 1:00 p.m.

The movie is free for ALL (you don’t need a ticket) so please invite your friends and neighbors to come to church in the morning and to the movie in the afternoon!

A Word from Our Denomination

As United Methodist Christians, we mourn with the victims and families of those wounded and killed in the shootings on June 12, 2016 in Orlando, Florida. We may even pray and wonder if anything could have been done to avert this heinous act.

But should we do more? Is there anything that can be done to keep something similar from happening in the future?

While we may not agree on a solution, many of us agree there is a problem. What can we do?

In the aftermath of the worst mass shooting incident in U.S. history, church leaders say United Methodists must speak up about the contributing factors — bigotry, hatred and the availability of military-style guns.

“I hope United Methodists will see this as an opportunity to speak up and speak on behalf of what is at the core of our DNA — love God and love neighbor,” Bishop Bruce Ough, president of the United Methodist Council of Bishops, told United Methodist News Service. “Wesley was pretty clear that that’s the mark of who we are.”

In May, the United Methodist General Conference, the denomination’s top legislative body, approved “Our Call to End Gun Violence” legislation, which includes eight ways United Methodists may prayerfully address gun violence including advocating for universal background checks on all gun purchases and a ban on large-capacity ammunition magazines and weapons designed to fire multiple rounds.

You may read the legislation in its entirety below.
