Upcoming Events

Messy Church is a new kind of service on the second Sunday of the month for parents and children to share. There will be a time to make crafts as a family, a short (and lively) time of gathering, and a family friendly lunch. This time will be about building community along with thinking about that greater power that is creator and love of all. It takes place in the church gym. Please register in advance so that we can prepare food and supplies.

Peace is a prayer for some and a life’s work for others. It’s a blessing we share with others and a longing within each of our hearts. Scripture is filled with the stories of peace and justice and camp is the perfect place to share them. Peace isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth the effort, because we know that peace works! Peace Works, our summer camp curriculum resource from InsideOut, offers a fun, enriching, spiritual, and biblically-based camp experience.

DGFUMC is offering this summer camp experience for children and youth from 2nd to 9th grade at the Wesley Woods Conference and Retreat Center in Williams Bay, WI from June 24-28. The grade listed is the grade the student will be entering in the fall of 2019.

Camp lasts only one week - but what campers take home can last a lifetime.

Registration for Summer Camp begins March 1 for DGFUMC members and April 1 for non-members.

Registration deadline: June 1.

A $50 deposit is due at the time of registration with payment in full due by June 24.

Space is limited, so register early!

Our Senior High group is going on it's annual Mission Trip. This year we are going to Georgia to be a part of DOOR Atlanta (Discovering Opportunities for Outreach and Reflection). Through DOOR's Discover program, groups spend time serving with a variety of local agencies and ministries and learning through evening speakers and activities.

The experience is about more than preparing a meal at a soup kitchen or playing with children at a day camp. It is an opportunity to work alongside local community members, to learn from local leaders, and to listen to the stories of neighbors, clients, and churches. The people and stories may challenge your initial perceptions of the city. But they reveal the ways that God is working. They will help you to see the face of God in the city.

A DOOR Atlanta Discover experience centers on the theme of Bread for the Journey and answers the question of "who is our neighbor?" by using the Bible and writings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Participants engage this theme and focus question through service work and community interactions. All participants go to The King Center to learn more about social justice and the changes the city of Atlanta has experienced because of the Civil Rights Movement.

Service Opportunities
DOOR Atlanta partners with 32 agencies across the city. Participant service experiences may include: a local soup kitchen, packing and sending medical supplies to third world countries, or working on a local urban farm\, or another experience.

Date:
Saturday, July 13, 2019 - 5:00am to Friday, July 19, 2019 - 10:00pm

The 13th Annual Downers Grove Garden Walk will give you an opportunity to view some of the most beautiful gardens in the area. The Garden Walk is a fundraiser benefitting the Bridge Board of the Downers Grove First United Methodist Church.

The Bridge Board is a program partner with Bridge Communities, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose focus is to transform the lives of homeless families by guiding them to a better future. This mission is accomplished by providing housing, mentoring, direction, hope, encouragement and a stable environment so that families may become self-sufficient and sustain their independence. Every family resides in DuPage County.
